image of me as a child with a toy camera

I am a photographer based along the beautiful North East coast of the UK. I am passionate about photography, and as this image shows, even from an early age, I have always had a camera with me.

I spend most of my day at a desk so whenever I have any free time I enjoy nothing more than being out by the coast or exploring the vast countryside. From vast flowing waterfalls to intimate landscapes along the shore I appreciate not only the process of making a photograph but being in the landscape; the fresh air, the peaceful sounds of the landscape – there is certainly something to be said about getting back to nature!

My photography journey started at a young age. I take my early inspiration from my Dad, who was always taking photographs during family trips. I admired his dedication to not only capturing those great times; but the time he spent when they arrived back from the developers, cataloguing each one in detail – which had to be complete before the grand unveiling to the family.

After a few film point and shoot cameras (including a 110mm with a mind of its own), I spent some of my first ‘proper’ jobs paycheck on a new DSLR, the Canon 300d – one of the first entry-level and affordable digital SLRs. I loved that I could control all aspects of making a photograph. I remained a Canon user for many years; until a back injury in 2012 left me with some tough choices to make regarding how I could carry my gear comfortably. After many hours of research, I made the switch to Fujifilm’s mirrorless system. I currently use a Fuji XT-3 and an XPro-2; I love the Fuji colours, the extensive range of lenses and the weight!

I have travelled around the north of England and spent time in Scotland photographing fantastic scenery and coastlines. I also enjoy travelling a little further afield and I have spent time photographing some incredible places, from the bustling streets of New York and Singapore to the vast rice fields in Bali.
